Ogden is an inner city community in the city of Calgary, located in the SE quadrant of the city. We consider it an up and coming inner-city infill community that will be more popular in 3-5 years as the prices are more affordable than other inner city infill communities. Lot sizes are larger, and are attractive to developers because the cost for land to redevelop are often much more affordable. Nearby Future C-Train connecting this community from the South East to the Downtown core, will make this community really accessible as this will be a easy commute for the residents in Ogden.
Subdivisions of Ogden include: Millican Estates and Lynnwood. Neighbouring communities include Riverbend, Quarry Park (Douglasdale). But Ogden is surrounded mostly by industrial and commercial real estate, and the Canadian Pacific Railway – Storage and Railway Yard to the East of this community. To the West of this community, the community is bounded by the Bow River.
What residents to Ogden may find attractive is that it is close to Glenmore Trail, Blackfoot Trail, Barlow Trail, which connects this community easily, and it’s within a 10-15 minute drive to almost anywhere central in the city. Also, Deerfoot Meadows Shopping area provides all the amenities for residents including: Costco, Superstore, Ikea, Wal-Mart, Dollarama and many restaurants/dining establishments, and other shops.
Parts of Ogden are located near the Old Refinery Park and Beaver Dam Flats Park. It was once an Oil Refinery owned by the company, Imperial Oil, back in 1923, the refinery was shut down in 1976. From 1985 to 2001, there were tests done in the community indicating high levels of lead contamination in the soil in Lynnview Ridge. Since 2006, Imperial Oil began remediating the site. The city of Calgary aims to convert the space into a recreational space and has since re-opened to the public at the end of 2018. Although there may still be concerns about the community, it is in our best interest to inform people looking to move into this area because although the prices may be lower, although it may seem like a great place to live for it’s relative proximity to almost everything you need. The great thing about what has happened with this community is that they city of Calgary will be doing extensive assessments to ensure that this area is safe for all residents going forward.
