Bowness is a community in the North West side of the city of Calgary. The neighbourhood is bounded by the Bow River to the north and east, Highway 1 (16th Avenue) to the South and Stoney Trail to the West . Did you know that Bowness was once it’s own town separate from the city of Calgary? It was amalgamated and part of the city of Calgary officially in 1964. We consider it a popular infill community in the city of Calgary for the relative affordability and the conversion of older homes being torn down to build multiple buildings on the same plot of land. The community is popular for investors seeking large lots to convert to duplexes and fourplexes.
Distance to the downtown core is about 15-20 minutes and the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit – Larger buses with fewer stops) run along Bowness Trail for an easier community to and from Downtown. Only about 15 minutes to downtown core, Bowness is gaining popularity and is ranked one of the top communities.
One of the most popular parks in the city of Calgary is Bowness Park for both summer and winter activities. It is a popular place for picnics, summer sports, and boating. The community of Bowness is also adjacent to WinSport. Winter sports at Winsport include a variety of Olympic and recreational sports: Tubing, Bobsleigh, Public Luge, Skeleton, Skating, Hockey (Shiny), Skiing and Snowboarding. Summer Activities include: Summer Bobsleigh, Zipline (North America’s Fastest), Bungee Jumping (Free Fall), Mini Golf, Scenic Chair Lift to the top of the hill, Mountain biking, Skyline Luge, and public skating.
Less than 5 minutes to exit the city of Calgary via Highway 1 (16th Avenue West) if you are looking for a community with a quick escape out of the city and to the mountains for the weekend.
Many schools serve the community: Belvedere Parkway School (K-6), Bowness High School (10-12), Bowcroft School (K-6), Thomas B. Riley School (7-9). Catholic Schools include: Our Lady of the Assumption School (K-9).
Amenities: Four Points Sheraton Hotel, Sandman Hotel, Denny’s Starbucks, Wendy’s, Opa, Space Place Self Storage, Rona. Nearby Safeway in Montgomery. NOtaBLE Restaurant – Top Upscale Bar/Eatery Restaurant in Calgary.
Lots of Future Development in the area will make continue to make this community one of the top community for years to come. Future Development of Greenwich Community just West of Bowness, will be Future Home of the Calgary Farmer’s Market West. Trinity Hills is on the South side of Highway 1 from Bowness Park. It’s also going to be one of the biggest community developments for a planned neighbourhood, tourist destination on Paskapoo Slopes (next to COP/Winsport).
With the final leg of the future Ring Road (Stoney Trail) Connecting NW to SW easily being completed. Bowness will be one of the most attractive communities to live in the city of Calgary in the coming years. We are excited for Bowness and it being one of the best Infill Community, can you tell?
