Sunnyside is a desirable community just North of Downtown across from the Bow River and Prince’s Island Park. Connections into the downtown core by walking or biking through the Peace Bridge, or the Bow River Pathway. Driving into downtown, you can access the core via 10th Street Bridge, or Centre Street Bridge – Lower Deck (can walk through as well). Accessing downtown via C-Train/LRT, the Sunnyside Station on the West end of the community.
Kensington is a few blocks away and is one of the trendiest streets in Calgary. Kensington Village is Calgary’s Urban Village, it has over 250 unique shops, restaurants, and services – perfect outing for the day with your friends, family or out-of-town guests. Famous for it’s dining establishments (i.e. Modern Steak, Midtown Kitchen & Bar, Sultan’s Tent, Fusion Sushi, Osteria De Medici, Oxbow, Vero Bistro Moderne, Hayden Block Smoke & Whiskey, Pulcinella Restaurant, Ikeman Ramen Bar, Julio’s Barrio, to name a few of many), Cafes (Espresso Cafe, Higher Ground Cafe, Regal Cat Cafe, Hexagon Board Game Cafe, etc.), to boutique stores (Gummi Boutique, Crave Cupcakes, Pie Junkie), and clothing retail (The Rocket, Brooklyn Clothing Company, Bellezza Bridal, Hot Wax Records, Purr Kensington, Grassroots, Fresh, Kensington Wine Market, and much more…). Calgary Safeway grocery store and Sunnyside Natural Market also serves this community for the other basic amenities. More information about what Kensington Village has to offer, visit these websites: http://kensingtonyyc.com/ or https://www.visitcalgary.com/things-to-do/shopping/kensington-village
Our favourite cafe is actually located in the residential area of Sunnyside and not in Kensington. Vendome Cafe is located on a quiet street off 2nd Avenue. A quick walk from the Sunnyside LRT, Vendome is owned by the Teatro Group, which is a family run chain of top restaurants in Calgary. http://www.vendomecafe.com/. Vendome offers amazing European inspired food, and decadent desserts. And live entertainment every Thursday night. Did I mention they were licensed to serve Beer and Wine and other delicious alcoholic beverages?
