Community of Capitol Hill, Calgary, Alberta
Capitol Hill
Popular infill community with large lots
Description
Capitol Hill is located in Calgary’s northwest inner city quadrant. The community is extremely popular for infills because of the size of lots and the ability to build duplexes. In recent years, investors and developers have flocked to build in this area. Capitol Hill is bordered by 16th Avenue to the south and Confederation Park to the north. In addition, it is bordered by 10th Street NW and 19th Street NW, with 14th Street dividing the community.
Located just south of Capitol Hill is the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), a post-secondary campus in Calgary. SAIT offers more than 100 career programs in technology, trades and business. Capitol Hill is a great community that will keep its value because of the endless student renters who go to SAIT. In addition, the University of Calgary, McMahon Stadium and the Olympic Oval are a short 15 minute walk from the community.
North Hill Shopping Centre is also located across the street from SAIT and south of Capitol Hill. An older style mall, it has lots of potential for growth and redevelopment. Currently, Safeway and the Lion’s Park LRT station keep this mall alive. Other popular shops and amenities in and around this area include World Health Calgary Gym, Registry Express, Louise Riley Library, Hounsfield Heights – Briar Hill Community Association, Peter’s Drive In, Earls, Shoppers Drug Mart, TD Canada Trust, Mark’s Work Warehouse, Global Pet Foods, Boston Pizza, Ardene, Bell, Angles, Dairy Queen, Dollarama, EB Games, Edo, Moores, as well as many others.
